Whether you work on the Helix site, or are visiting, there are plenty of independent cafes and restaurants right on its doorstep to keep you going, from breakfast to lunch, and through to an evening meal and drinks.

Breakfast / Brunch

Pink Lane Bakery

40 Pink Lane, NE1 5DY

Coming from Central Station? Pick up a delicious pastry, cake or savoury along with an Ouseburn Coffee Company coffee from this artisan bakery’s distinctive) pink painted original shop.

The Dispensary

Heber Street, NE4 5TN

Coming up to the Helix from St James’ Metro you’ll find The Dispensary. Popular with students for its hearty pancake-based breakfasts and speciality coffee, you’ll often find a queue outside. Be prepared to go in hungry and come out full.

Brunch / Lunch

Earthlings Café

94 Buckingham Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE4 5QR

At the top of the Helix site you’ll find Earthlings Café. It is a vegan whole food and juice bar. Think ginger shots, fresh pressed fruit and vegetable juice, smoothies, raw cakes, light breakfasts and lunches. There is plenty to keep your energy levels boosted for the rest of the day.

Afternoon to Evening

Fuochi Pizza Experience

211 Westgate Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 6AD

Once the domain of greasy spoons and "biker caffs", Fuochi on Westgate Hill has really upped the food options on this side of the Helix site. Its authentic Napoletana pizzas and calzones are crispy and come with an exciting range of toppings and sauces. Open from 3pm Fouchi offers takeaway or the chance to sit in with a beer.

Evening Food and Drinks

The Earl of Pitt Street

70 Pitt Street, NE4 5ST

At the end of the day, visit The Earl of Pitt Street pub for some after work drinks. It’s food menu combines traditional pub food with an eastern twist. Its owner used to run the Barn Again, Barn Asia and Electric East restaurants, so their influence is evident in its eclectic but highly regarded food menu. Their Sunday lunch is so popular they’ve also taken to serving it on Saturdays too, and is often fully booked, and well worth making a visit for at the weekend.

Plenty of choice

There’s plenty of choice around the Helix site of great places to eat whatever time of day, so get exploring now and support some of the nearby independent establishments.
