Join us in donating to local charities

Following the success of The Core’s previous campaigns to raise funds for local food banks, we are running a site-wide campaign to raise vital donations for the West End Food Bank and for our neighbours at The People's Kitchen.

The West End Food Bank strives to provide food for people who are unable to afford it for themselves or their families.

The social impact of the pandemic has resulted in more people using their services and they have responded by opening additional centres across the city. They now have distribution centres in Heaton, Byker, Benwell, Lemington, Newbiggin Hall and The Bede Church on the West Road.

Over the past year, the food bank has distributed a total of 19,137 food parcels across Newcastle, equating to 307,461kg of food. This is double the amount they distributed during 2019/2020.

They are currently short of the following items:

  • Juice

  • Jam

  • Tinned fish

  • Tinned fruit

  • Long life milk -Cereal

Festive treats are also greatly appreciated, including:

  • Puddings

  • Cakes

  • Chocolate

  • Sweets

The fundamental goal of The People’s Kitchen is to provide friendship and food to the city’s most vulnerable people.

Operating seven days a week every day of the year (save Boxing Day), the kitchen provides hot meals, showers, a library, clothing and emergency mobile phones for their service users.

The number of ‘Friends’ they are now helping has increased massively in the past 12 months and they are now regularly serving 300 meals at each session.

The People’s Kitchen has launched their Feed a Friend for a Fiver campaign to support the homeless and help fight hunger and loneliness this winter.

They are also looking for smaller items to give away in the style of an Advent Calendar on the run up to Christmas, including things like:

  • Hats

  • Gloves

  • Scarves

  • Socks

  • Chocolates (Santa, Reindeer, coins)

  • Selection boxes

  • Chocolate orange

  • Sweets

  • Crisps and snacks

  • Puzzles and adult colouring books

  • Hot or cold drink flasks

  • Toiletry gift sets

  • Phone charging power banks

  • Greggs/McDonalds/Café vouchers

Please drop off your donations at The Core by Friday 10th December, 4pm.
