"The best schoolday ever!”
BUILDING BLOCKS Insights is a unique initiative where Newcastle Helix welcomes 240 local Primary School children to the site.
Held over two days, the Year 5 students delve into interactive STEM workshops. Led by North East experts, the sessions feature AI, robotics, data science, LEGO, geo-spatial mapping, maths games and programming LED light displays.
Uniquely, BUILDING BLOCKS Insights takes place on typical working days in The Catalyst building, so the 9 and 10 year-olds get a rare but invaluable chance to experience a real-life workplace. In turn, it gives the businesses at Helix a chance to meet their potential future workforce.
The groundbreaking initiative is a collaboration between the Helix community (organisations such as the National Innovation Centre for Data, RTC North, Altitude Foundation and CGI), alongside the North East Combined Authority, and external partners (like Newcastle United Foundation and Mi-box Live).
All of these organisations are dedicated to delivering social impact. BUILDING BLOCKS is about opportunities for all. It's aimed at inspiring young people about what's possible in the world of STEM, and on their own doorstep.
